A Prayer: The Wonder, Will and Wisdom of God

Father in Heaven, you are altogether lovely. There is no other being like you in heaven or on earth. You stand alone in your perfections. Even if compiled all together, all creation is less than you in every way.

Thank you for giving me eyes to see that. I was blind before, chasing after empty wells to satisfy my thirst, but you have become to me an ocean of living water.

I used to give my heart to idols, with false hopes of fulfillment. They left me empty and dark inside. But you are the true light that fills me with meaning, joy and a worthy object for all my affections and ambitions.

Fill me afresh today with the joy of salvation; with wonder at being a recipient of your saving love and effectual grace; with gratitude for you daily care of me.

Let me never become so familiar with what it is to be a Christian, that I fail to wake up every day stunned by this reality.

Keep my heart, Lord. Let me not wander away from you to lesser things. May your infinite worth be exalted in me and through me.

You have made me in your image, and re-created me in the image of Christ. You have stamped something of your own character upon me, your child, and have burdened and gifted me to carry out good works that you have prepared for me.

Cause this image to emerge more clearly. And cause these good works to mark my life.

Teach me to number my days and know they are few. And by that, motivate me to redeem the time and live to make a name for the Lord Jesus in the context in which you’ve placed me.

Father, I feel unguided and unsure about how my life is meant to count for your glory.

I struggle to connect my daily activities with the grand story of redemption that you are writing in this world.

I feel like all my efforts are just for the sustenance of my physical body and my temporal needs.

Help me, Lord, to bring every part of my being and doing under your mission.

With all of the endless possibilities before me, grant me the discipline and humility to silence the noise and give myself for long periods of time to the thing that most tends to your glory, and for which I am most fit.

Help me to see my home as a tools to love my neighbours and extending your hospitality.

Help me to see my workplace as battleground to be taken for the Lord Jesus.

Help me to see my schooling as preparation to make much of you with the knowledge and skills I acquire.

Help me to see my spouse and children and siblings and parents and friends as precious image bearers in need of my ministry.

Help me to see my fellow church members as those for whom Christ shed His precious blood, and grant me to esteem and love them in His name.

Help me to see all my eating and my drinking; my driving my walking; my working and my playing in the context of worship.

Help me also, Lord, to see all of your actions in my life as an expression of your sovereignty, wisdom and goodness.

Redeem the pain I feel from broken relationships;

Attend to the tears that have poured from my eyes at the death of a loved one;

Use my trials to refine my virtue and deepen my hope;

Let me experience your strength all the more as my circumstances make me to feel my weakness all the more.

May my sickness and pain point me with greater thankfulness to the Lord Jesus who suffered and died that I might have life forever.

Oh God, you are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin.

Sanctify me. Wash away my doubts, fears, anxieties and sins that so easily weigh me down.

Lift my eyes and Grant me to see Jesus at your right hand.

And having cleansed me, fill me with your word. Satisfy my heart with your steadfast love.

We pray all of this in His name. Amen.
